New Dreamer Mask of Resilience Terrarium Pendant (+ other pretty things :)

April 24, 2016 | By | 3 Comments

Long story short, Lumecluster is undergoing some more changes. Nothing drastic. Mostly new materials and more focused design interests.

What’s happening is that I’m finally figuring myself (and my art) out. By the way, if you’re new to Lumecluster, check out my first blog post or see my art progression for comparison.

The biggest change is that I’ll be focusing more on my love for fantasy and games as you can see with this new terrarium pendant (now available in my shop) and my recent health potion pendant and armor. If you’ve been following Lumecluster for a while, you’ll know that I never really shared much of this side of me until recently…mostly because I didn’t feel safe to share it (especially in the context of the work I used to do).

But I’m not hiding who I am anymore.

Some people may not like the me they are getting to know and that’s fine (can’t please everyone!). I guess this is where we part ways. But if you wanna stick around, I’m more than happy to have you here! So, why am I focusing more on my love for fantasy and games?

Truth is, fantasy books and RPG video games kinda saved me.

(NOTE: Before anyone goes off on some “Games only rot your brains!” lecture or whatever, please keep in mind this is MY experience growing up with games. I performed perfectly fine at school. I’d appreciate it we can please keep video game generalizations, arguments, and debates out of here.)

As a child, my sisters and I were pretty ostracized, so we turned to each other. And books. Lots of books. I would read a new book practically every week.

I was a timid kid but I had an extremely active imagination. If I wasn’t spending my free time drawing mythical characters and lands, my sister and I would go on magical journeys (around the house) or we’d gather props and write plays for our toys to perform. For the longest time, I thought about how I could one day be an adventurer, wizard, knight or hero of my own.

Playing fantasy roleplaying games (RPG) or massively multiplayer online games (MMO) also had an interesting effect on my self discipline and ambition. I began to look at every new challenge as an opportunity to “Level Up.” As an adult, I continue to heavily gamify many aspects of my life (which also helps me make the most mundane things not so painfully boring).

What I’m trying to say is that fantasy novels and RPGs have a special place in my heart because they helped me make sense out of life when I felt utterly confused or alone. The extraordinary stories gave me imaginary courage, which eventually became real courage…and hope.

Also, fantasy novels and games were often simply beautiful, which brings me to my latest creation.

The new Dreamer Mask of Resilience terrarium pendant is just a small glimpse into one of the directions I’ll be going. Click here to get the pendant in the shop.

In fantasy novels and games, there are often magical trinkets and jewelry you can use that empower and strengthen your abilities (i.e. strength, dexterity, constitution, wisdom, intelligence, charisma…). I wanted to create some special items of my own.

When your day just isn’t going the way you want or you’re feeling like you’re falling further and further away from your goals, it’s easy to want to give up or lose hope.

The Dreamer Mask of Resilience is meant to remind you to not let your frustrations and anxieties overwhelm you.

It can often feel like negative thoughts grow out of control, but it’s all about perspective. You have the power to decide how you want your thoughts to grow (or maybe take a break!). In the end, your thoughts are not your reality.

The moss and scattered baubles are meant to look like they are “growing” out of the winding vine/root-like mask…or perhaps it’s the other way around? 🙂

There are definitely more designs and new materials coming soon (big and small), so stay tuned.

For now, here’s a hint at how Lumecluster designs are probably going to change. Click the 15 second video below to check it out.

The new 3D printed Sovereign Armor will also be made of the same elasto plastic material you saw above.

So, what do you think of this new mini terrarium mask pendant? Let me know 🙂

P.S. Did I mention I also finally bought my own 3D printer? Yeah, so that finally happened 😀

  1. Andi Graves

I *love* the new necklace, Melissa! It’s so inspiring to see that you’re expanding your talents into the realm of fantasy. I’m finding the courage to do the very same!
And your words about when you were younger I completely relate to, I loved escaping into the world of books.
Congrats on your new printer (that’s seriously exciting!) and cheers to not hiding who we are anymore! 🙂

    • Thank you, Andi! Means a lot coming from you! <3 *curls up in pile of books*
